Discover the Pointe-Noire Interpretation and Observation Center
As the Charlevoix region is located on the banks of the St. Lawrence River, it is full of marine activities. Although the North Shore is famous for whale and beluga watching, Charlevoix has nothing to envy.
If you want to learn more about the marine fauna of the region, don't miss the Pointe-Noire Interpretation and Observation Center. Located only 1 km before arriving at the ferry to Tadoussac, it is the perfect place to take a break.
From the observation platform, you can scan the St. Lawrence River in search of belugas and whales.

It is an ideal place to better understand the local ecosystem while supporting existing conservation efforts.

Go whale watching in Charlevoix
From May to October, the St. Lawrence River is becoming a real sanctuary for whales and belugas. These marine mammals migrate to the cold waters of the river at this time of year, offering simply spectacular observations.
We recommend watching from shore, so as not to disturb their environment with the noise of boat engines, which interfere with their communication. The Pointe-Noire Interpretation and Observation Center is an excellent place for that.
Another option is to participate in a kayak or canoe trip on the river. You have to be comfortable sailing in open waters, as currents can be strong and waves can be unpredictable. Several guided tours are available, offering the chance to see some whales or belugas.
The last option is to go on a boat cruise. However, we do not recommend it, because too often, boats get too close to animals or chase them. In addition, the noise of the engines significantly impairs their communication.
Seeing whales up close, in a natural setting like Charlevoix, is a rare and precious experience. If you are in the region during summer or fall, this is an activity not to be missed.
A unique summer activity: Learning the riches of the forest with Forêt Gourmande
Forêt Gourmande is a local business located at the foot of the Massif de Charlevoix. It is the perfect activity for people who want to learn more about the treasures of the region's forest.

You can also visit their store to participate in a culinary creation workshop and discover how to use spices and mushrooms from the forest.
And if you want to extend the experience at home, you can buy their products in store to recreate the boreal magic at home.
If you are short on time, stop by their gourmet coffee! They offer several delicious creations to enjoy on site: try their maple latte with oat milk, a cappuccino with crispy alder pepper, a wild mushroom soup or even a brownie with young balsam fir shoots.

This microbrewery offers a great selection, and you can even find their products in most grocery stores in Quebec.
